Vibrant Soulful RYT 300 Syllabus
The Vibrant Soulful RYT 300 Advanced Teacher Training Program Works Like This:
- Trainees take 12 required weekend modules between April 2019 and May 2020 (216 contact hours, 24 non-contact hours).
- Trainees complete the remaining hours for this program by taking 3 elective modules that are offered quarterly (62 contact hours, 24 non contact hours). These elective modules must be completed by December 2020.
Vibrant Soulful RYT 300 Weekend Modules
Students seeking the RYT 300 certificate must attend all 12 modules. Make up hours may be arranged under special circumstances.

Other Assignments and Requirements
- Reading, videos, podcasts and/or webinars will be assigned to accompany weekend modules.
- Research project - Each trainee will be required to choose to conduct research on a yoga related topic of interest and present their learning to the group
- Teaching Practicum - Trainees will be required to teach in partner groups, small groups and with the whole group throughout the training
Module Description and Learning Objectives
Teaching Practicum: 36 hours
Description
During each of our 12 weekend, trainees engage in 3 hours of practicum During these practicum sessions, trainees practice teach in pairs, small groups and to the entire group. Teaching skills practiced include: postural asana instruction, use of active and passive language, verbal adjustments, manual adjustments, demonstrations, theme development, use of modifications, time management, classroom management, dynamics and more.
Learning Objectives
Trainees are able to offer safe, effective and uplifting yoga instruction with confident skills in the following areas: instruction of asana, pranayama, meditation and savasana. Trainees are able to modulate their voice and language using active and passive instruction and demonstrate effective verbal and manual adjustments. Trainees exhibit proficiency in sequence development and thematic teaching. Trainees manage the yoga classroom with efficiency and poise.

Description
The focus of this workshop is on sadhana, personal practice. In this workshop, trainees cultivate a greater experiential understanding of the mandala of yoga practices. We go in depth into the practice of mantra, pranayama, and meditation for personal practice.

Trainees gain intellectual and experiential understanding of the practices of mantra, pranayama and meditation, learning several practices and techniques from both Classical and Tantric yoga lineages.
The Practice of Meditative Contemplation

Description
In this workshop, students learn the practice of meditative contemplation or bhavana as a complementary practice to meditation as a tool for reading and exploring sacred texts as well as for personal inquiry.
Learning Objectives Students learn and practice bhavana (a meditative contemplation technique) and practice this in a group setting as well as on their own as means of cultivating intuition and getting gaining clarity.
Deepening Your Personal Practice of Sadhana
1.5 contact hours of Yoga Philosophy/Lifestyle and Ethics
Description
In this workshop, trainees explore the potency of one's home personal practice or sadhana. Ultimately, one's home practice should be the place the trainee hone's their self-study and builds the foundation for their teaching. Workshop resources include hand outs, and a variety of texts.
Learning Objectives
Trainees will engage in conversation and use and share resources for articulating and developing a strong practice plan that draws on the mandala of yoga practices and fits with the trainee's goals and objectives for personal and professional growth.
Deepening Your Home Asana Practice
2 contact hours and 2 non-contact hours of Techniques, Training and Practice
Description
In this workshop, trainees use the book, The Yoga Technique Guide by Bruce Bowditch and other text resources to explore the art of creating a satisfying home yoga asana practice and how to deepen and vary a home practice over time. We review the categories of yoga asanas and explore the different resources we can draw on to cultivate a satisfying and rich home asana practice to support our personal growth and skill as a teacher.
Learning Objectives
Trainees engage in discussion, reading and writing and create a plan for their personal growth in yoga asana for the next few months honing in on yoga asanas they want to work on, and postural skills they want to develop.

Description
In this workshop, we review the fundamentals of yoga alignment. We review terms and definitions for anatomical neutral and explore the basic pulsation of muscular engagement and energetic expansion in a variety of yoga asanas.

Using The Yoga Technique Guide by Bruce Bowditch as a guide, trainees will be able to clearly articulate the basic pulsation of energy in asanas and be able to apply these principle first in their own bodies and later in teaching others.
Alignment and Adjustments of the Lower Body
Description
In this workshop, we focus on the key alignment principles of the lower body.
Learning Objectives
Trainees will be able to examine and adjust the position of the the feet in standing poses. Trainees will be able to examine and adjust for alignment of the legs and pelvis, with a clear understanding of the application of internal and external rotation of the legs for proper alignment of the legs and pelvis

Description
In this workshop the focus is on the review of alignment for the upper body: pelvis, spine, shoulders, neck and head.
Learning Objectives
Trainees will be able to discern and articulate proper alignment of the spine, rib cage, shoulder girdle, arms, neck and head for stability and mobility in a variety of yoga asanas.
Teaching the Fundamental Principles of Alignment
Description
In this workshop, we review and practice the language cues for teaching yoga asana alignment. We review effective language for helping our yoga students begin in big listening/receptive space, set up their foundations, create muscular engagement, and active expansion.
Learning Objectives
Trainees will be able to effectively articulate how to teach breath, placement, pose name, setting a foundation, muscular engagement and energetic extension/expansion. We will focus on both active and passive language cues.

Description
In this second part of the workshop, trainees take the principles of theme development from workshop 1 and begin to apply them in the creation of a thematic multi-week yoga plan.

In this final theming workshop, trainees continue to develop their thematic teaching plans and share their plans with their peers.

Trainees create a 3 ring binder theme teaching notebook with thematic teaching plans for a full month of yoga classes. They share and receive feedback about their teaching plans from trainers and from their peers.
Exploring the Mythology and Stories of the Yoga Tradition
2.5 hours of Yoga Philosophy/Lifestyle and Ethics
Description
In this workshop, we explore some of the beautiful myths and stories of the yoga tradition, including the stories of deities.
Learning Objectives
Trainees read and listen to some of the deity myths/stories from the yoga tradition and discuss how these stories have messages and wisdom for our modern lives and how the stories can be developed into themes for their yoga classes.

We look at the different categories of poses. We examine the arc structure of a yoga class and consider the different options for sequencing a class including: full spectrum practices, peak pose practices, and key action practices.

Trainees are able to name and describe the different categories of poses: seated centering, warm ups, standing poses, hip opening poses, forward folds, arm balances, backbends and inversions. Trainees are able to describe the arc structure of a yoga class and describe the different ways in which classes can be sequenced toward a specific goal.

Description
In this workshop, trainees gather in small groups and create a full spectrum sequence for a 60 minute class.
Learning Objectives
Trainees create a full spectrum sequence for a 60 minute yoga class using a hand out/template. They can explain their reasoning for selecting the poses for a particular audience and they putting the poses in that particular order.
Creating Peak Pose Sequences

Description
In this workshop, we examine sequencing toward a peak pose. We a pose and and look at the parts that make up the the poses and examine how to methodically and sequentially build toward a more difficult yoga asana with the principles of peak pose sequencing.

Description
In this workshop, trainees consider yet another way of creating yoga sequences: as a means of balancing energy. Exploring the 5 great elements of earth, water, fire, air and ether and drawing on concepts of Ayurveda, we consider in this workshop how to create sequences to balance energies in the body. We look particularly at the following kinds of sequences: grounding, calming and invigorating.

Experiential Anatomy Workshop 1
Description
In this workshop, we review the basic muscle actions, types of muscle contractions, and types of synovial joints. We then spend our time looking at the spine, examining and discussing the the curves, what neutral spine looks like and how to support a student in cultivating a healthy spine.
Learning Objectives
Trainees will be able to: 1) see the range of "normal" in a spine; 2) know how to help a student engage and/or release in order to support a neutral spine shape, and 3) understand the relationship between spinal alignment/support and breath capacity.
Experiential Anatomy Workshop 2
Description
In this workshop, we focus on the pelvic girdle. We review the following kinds of muscles: flexors, extensors, abductors, adductors, medial rotators, lateral rotators, pelvic floor muscles and abdominal muscles. Description
This 11 week dharma based course is designed to help trainees hone in on their dharma, and begin to live their true calling. Weekly lessons focus on teachings of dharma and how these can be applied to daily life. Topics include honing one's personal and universal values (namas/niyamas), daily sadhana practices, tools for successful meditation, strategies for developing intuition, and how to refine ones daily routine in the service of dharma.

Trainees will develop a dharma plan that includes a vision map, quarterly, weekly and daily goals. They will learn to use meditation and inquiry in the service of unfolding their dharma. They will apply the Bhagavad Gita lesson of "yoga as skill in action" as they develop productivity skills to serve their personal and professional life as a yogi.

This 11 week seasonal yoga lifestyle course is focused on spring health and wellness. Topics and explorations include: a guided spring yoga detox, spring season lifestyle diet recommendations, prana expanding practices for spring, yoga and Ayurveda on the stages of a women's life, yoga and Ayurveda for healthier hormones, and strategies for dynamic and graceful aging.

Trainees will experience and learn the importance of a gentle seasonal detox. They will learn the yogic and Ayurvedic recommendations for spring diet and lifestyle.
