Annie's Story in her own words
Born and raised in Utah, I grew up in a loving family. As a child, I loved learning and was full of curiosity about people, cultures and customs. While I was a high achieving student, I often struggled with perfectionism and anxiety which led to frequent stomach aches and insomnia. I was also very spiritually inclined and interested in the deeper questions about life.
I went to college at the University of California, San Diego, where I majored in Latin American studies. One of my most formative college activities was working at a student-run collective vegetarian restaurant on campus. There, I became hooked on whole foods and natural living, and met Steve, who would become my life partner, sharing with me the love of healthy living, travel, and the great outdoors.
During my college years, I excelled academically, but continued to experience high anxiety and stress. One day, I decided to try a yoga class and was surprised by how good I felt and the sense of peace I experienced. It was a feeling of coming home to myself, and I knew at once that I had discovered a powerful practice for my personal wellbeing as well as a path to self-discovery.
After college, I went on to earn a Master of Arts in Education from the California, Santa Cruz. I worked as a teacher in public schools in California, Oregon and Washington where I was a passionate advocate for underserved students and families. During my years of public school teaching, yoga continued to be a pillar practice for me as it helped me stay balanced amid the stressful demands of teaching. I went on to train and become a registered yoga teacher.
When I became a mother, I gave up the demands of full-time teaching to stay at home and devote my energy to her growing family. I spent several years mothering my two children, teaching yoga part-time, teaching movement and cultural studies classes at public school part-time, and volunteering in my community. As my kids grew older, my interests in holistic health and wellness prompted me to follow my passions and seek further training and certificates in yoga, meditation, health coaching and Ayurvedic wellness.
Over the years, I have combined my knowledge and skills in the arena of holistic health and created a unique collection of wellness services and offerings including yoga classes, wellness retreats, workplace wellness programs, habit change programs, Ayurveda and group and individual coaching. I have been blessed to work with individuals, organizations and workplaces from around the world.
