Hi! I'm Annie.

I'm trained as a Bilingual Educator, Certified Integrative Health and Wellbeing Coach, Yoga Health Coach, Ayurvedic Wellness Specialist, and Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher and Trainer.

I have worked in the field of education since 1995, and in the fields of yoga, and wellness since 1998. I educate and empower groups and individuals to live more vibrant lives with the tools of holistic wellness, coaching, mindfulness, habit change science and yoga.

As an educator and public speaker, I am skilled at conveying holistic health and wellness information to a variety of diverse populations in a clear and effective manner. I'm talented at creating and delivering wellness curriculum and courses in both online and in person formats. I have an excellent record of service in public education, community healthcare outreach and multicultural education.

As a Certified Integrative Health and Wellbeing Coach, Yoga Health Coach, and Ayurvedic wellness consultant I am trained to focus on integrative and preventive healthcare as well as health promotion with a specific focus on diet, lifestyle, and stress reduction techniques utilizing the tools of the Ayurvedic healing system, yoga and habit change science. I have a comprehensive knowledge of health, nutrition, and fitness issues and I'm familiar with the types of diseases arising due to poor eating habits and sedentary lifestyle. As a coach, my aim is to listen deeply, see each client as a unique and whole person, and work cooperatively to restore balance and well-being.

As a certified yoga teacher and trainer with over 20 years of teaching experience and advanced training in yoga philosophy, meditation and Ayurvedic yoga therapies, I excel at creating and executing inspiring, rejuvenating and restorative yoga classes, programs and retreats for groups and individuals for mind-body wellness. I founded my own Yoga Alliance Registered Yoga School and I have offered 200 and 300 hour yoga teacher training programs as well as mentoring yoga teachers and yoga health coaches.

"Don't ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive." - Howard Thurman

This quote best summarizes the way in which I approach and my life and the ways in which I weave my passions and interests into satisfying learning adventures and service.

Following what makes me come alive has been a circuitous journey
I came into this world as a highly sensitive, and often fretful little person. As I child and teen, I was very curious about people, other cultures, spirituality, and the world. I liked school and excelled at academics, but I tended toward perfectionism and anxiety and I often experienced tummy aches and insomnia. I seemed to feel everything intensely and deeply and I often didn't know what to do with all of the thoughts and feelings that were dancing inside me. Thankfully, I grew up in a loving family with parents who supported me and my interests and who prioritized healthy social interactions, a wholesome diet, and lots of outdoor exercise activities, all of which helped me feel more grounded and sane.

My curiosity in other people, languages, and cultures led me to Venezuela as a high school exchange student. There I learned Spanish and discovered a love for Latin American culture. Fast forward to college. I was majoring in Latin American studies and working at the student run, collectively run, Ché Cafe, a vegetarian restaurant on campus. There I met Steve Scheuerell, who would become my husband and lifelong companion, sharing with me the love of travel, culture, interesting and healthy cuisine, and the great outdoors. While in college, I excelled academically, but I continued to feel anxious and stressed. Thankfully that's when I learned about yoga and took my first yoga class. All I can remember about my first yoga class was savasana, the guided relaxation at the end of class. At the time, I didn't remember ever feeling so peaceful in my life, and I knew that I had discovered a powerful practice for health and well-being. Since that day, yoga has been a regular practice in my life and a key habit in reducing anxiety and stress.

From college, I went on to graduate school, earning an M.A. in Education, and becoming a bilingual educator. I would go on to work with migrant populations in public education in California, Oregon and Washington. Alongside teaching in public schools, I pursued training as a yoga teacher, and started teaching yoga in local studios. After the birth of my first son, I gave up my full-time job as a public school teacher to devote time to being a mother and to teach yoga part-time. Over time my yoga teaching "hobby" became more and more of a "calling." In the subsequent years, I would pursue additional training and certification in yoga philosophy, meditation, Ayurveda, and Integrative Health and Wellness coaching. Yoga philosophy gives me a roadmap to ask and reflect on the "big" questions of life, like, "why am I here?" Meditation is daily a practice that brings me home to myself. Ayurveda, the science of life, is the practice of caring for my body vessel. Coaching gave me the tools to understand how and why humans change.

Furthermore, just to keep things spicy and interesting, in 2010, our family spent five months in the Peruvian Andes for a study abroad program my college professor husband was leading. We ended up falling in love with the Sacred Valley, purchasing land there, creating a home, and building a community. We now spend several months there each year, participating in the local community, learning from our Quechua neighbors, and sharing our love of this region's culture and geography with others.

What makes me come alive is bringing together my passions and interests to better myself and serve humanity. I am passionate about the ways in which the the ancient sciences of yoga and Ayurveda combined with innovative learning environments, coaching psychology, and habit change science can be employed in our modern daily life to restore health and well-being to the mind, body and heart.
